Banco di Sant’Eligio

Location: Via S. Eligio al Mercato – Chiesa di Sant’Eligio

In 1592 the ancient charity of the Banco di Sant’Eligio al Mercato, convinced that the management of a public bank can be useful to the Charities they govern, (the church, the hospital, and the conservatory, opened its doors to a neighbourhood in Naples where commercial activities were liveliest: the Marketplace.

The new institution favoured the activities of the merchants who, thanks to a more convenient use of credit documents, could better manage their transactions.
